We are having a snow day here in D.C. and celebrated with cinnamon bun scones for breakfast, as is our tradition. These have been a household favorite for years. Easy to mix up, and loved by all. Enjoy!
CinnamonBun Scones
Yield : 12-18 scones, depending on size
Ingredients
2 c. flour
1 c. oatmeal
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
8 Tbsp. butter
3/4 c. milk
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375.
In large mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
(I do all of this in my kitchen aid)
In a 2 c. measure, combine milk, egg & vanilla; blend well.
Add to dry ingredients, stirring until moistened.
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar with cinnamon & nuts; mix well.
Sprinkle evenly over dough in bowl and gently fold into mixture.
Drop dough onto a greased cookie sheet(s) about 2″ apart.
Bake 11-13 minutes or until golden brown.
Drizzle with powdered sugar icing, if desired.
(3/4 c. powdered sugar + 1 Tbsp milk)
